In Search of Pizza - Janet and Ken in Italy

One of the things on Janet's “bucket list”, and frankly mine too, has been to travel to Italy.  We are anxious to see the sights and to experience as much as we can ,in yet another part of the world where much of history began.  Starting on June 12, 2014 and until June 29th, we can officially check that one off of the list, at least in part.

A little before noon on June 12th, our plane will leave Seattle for a stop in Toronto, Ontario, Canada before heading to our destination in Rome Italy.  If all goes according to plan, we should arrive fully rested and ready to hit the ground running, or rather begin enjoying the sights and sounds of our first time in Italy.

Janet and I have booked a tour for our first 11 days.  We, naturally start in Rome, visiting the Colosseum, Vatican and most of the typical tourist attractions.  We will wind our way northward visiting many of the “must see's” like Pisa, Florence, Bologna and Venice.  The tour concludes in Milan, where after enjoying the area and spending a night we head to a rental car company to begin the 2nd phase or our trip; trying to navigate our way on our own.

We are taking our own GPS which we have preprogrammed for our planned destinations in Turin, Genoa, Florence (again) and eventually back to Milan.  There, we will conclude our vacation and head back to Toronto/Seattle on June 29th.

The organized tour should help make sure that we see many of the things that we “should” see in that region of Italy plus we should have enough free time to explore a bit on our own. With luck, we can find a few less touristy hide-aways that we always enjoy discovering.  Hopefully too, we can learn enough of the language and customs that will make our solo touring a little easier.

Once in our rented vehicle we will be in search of a few other points of our interest that weren't included with the tour.

We should have plenty of stories and pictures to share.  Hopefully you will join us vicariously.
